They began performing on Main Street, and after several changes the first long-running Dapper Dans quartet was formed. A few years later in 1959, the group evolved into a singing and comedy act that would interact with the crowd, perhaps leading to what we now know as the typical Citizens of Main Street experience. Prior to the official formation of The Dapper Dans, a 4 part barbershop quartet was brought in to give the area more of its early 20th century feel.
The group dates all the way back to its first appearance in 1959 in Disneyland. The barbershop quartet can be found walking up and down Main Street stopping to perform songs for passing guests.
